1. Basic Overview of the Product

Durable chemical-resistant coatings, known as chemical-resistant paints, are specialized coatings used to protect surfaces from chemical substances such as acids, alkalis, salts, oils, and organic solvents. These coatings are essential for chemical plants, buildings, and equipment to prevent corrosion caused by chemical liquids and vapors. They are highly durable and protect surfaces over extended periods, thereby extending the lifespan of equipment and reducing maintenance costs.

2. Technical Details

The performance of chemical-resistant coatings primarily depends on the type and properties of the resin used. For instance, bituminous coatings are based on asphalt or tar pitch and are improved with the addition of drying oils and phenolic resins to enhance weather resistance and flexibility. Epoxy resins containing ether bonds and vinyl resins containing ethylene bonds excel in alkali resistance and are used as alkaline sealers for surfaces like concrete. These resins are particularly adept at withstanding complex mechanisms like aging, decomposition, dissolution, swelling, softening, penetration, and extraction caused by chemical reactions. Strong pigments like titanium dioxide and phthalocyanine green, which are resistant to acids and alkalis, are used, while inert pigments like talc and white carbon are employed as extender pigments. The combination of these components results in chemical-resistant coatings with advanced chemical structures that maintain their performance even under extreme environmental conditions. The latest chemical-resistant coatings leverage nanotechnology and advances in polymer chemistry to form even more powerful protective layers.

3. Benefits and Applications

Chemical-resistant coatings are suitable for use in industries such as chemical and petroleum, where they are exposed to harsh chemical environments. Thick-film epoxy resin-based or vinyl ester resin-based coatings containing laminar glass flakes, which have excellent barrier properties, have gained prominence as advanced chemical-resistant coatings applied to the interior surfaces of various storage tanks. This significantly extends the equipment’s lifespan, reduces maintenance costs, and enhances production efficiency and quality.

4. Usage and Maintenance

Proper use of chemical-resistant coatings requires surface cleaning and surface preparation. Before painting, the target surface should be dried, rust-free, and cleaned of oil and dust. The painting process involves applying multiple thin coats to ensure that there are no pinholes that penetrate the coating film. Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial to detect coating degradation or damage early and to perform repairs or re-coating as needed, ensuring long-term protection.
