In painting operations, the removal of aerosol spray mist and evaporated organic solvents is crucial for safety and hygiene. To achieve this, the installation of a painting booth equipped with capturing and exhaust devices is indispensable.

1. Types of painting booth

There are mainly two types of painting booths: “Dry Booths” and “Wet Booths.”

Dry Booths: The paint mist in the air is captured as it passes through a filter, and the air, now free of mist, is exhausted. Dry booths do not use water, making maintenance easy, but they require fire prevention measures and regular filter replacement. The baffle plate type uses the inertial force of the paint mist to capture it upon collision with the plate. This offers the advantage of a wide ventilation area while minimizing filter clogging.

Wet Booths: There are three variations: water wash, centrifugal, and oil fence.

Water Wash Booths: Water is flowed across a plate at the front of the booth, creating a water film that captures the spray mist. The capturing efficiency changes depending on the condition of the internal shower, requiring maintenance of pumps and shower nozzles.

Venturi Booths: The suction power of an exhaust fan lifts water, which then contacts and captures the mist in a centrifugal chamber. Water level within the tank significantly affects capture efficiency, making water level management crucial. While offering high capture efficiency, it has the downsides of significant power consumption and noise.

Oil Fence Booths: This method uses oil instead of water to capture the paint mist.

2. Selection of painting booth

The selection of a painting booth must be based on the conditions and objectives of the painting work.
